A Modern Path to Civic Engagement
Empowering youths votes

Project Summary
Extensive research during this project revealed key challenges contributing to low voter turnout among young adults, including driver's license requirements for registration, unwieldy voting systems, and confusion regarding the registration process.
Problem Statement
Young voters face significant barriers to civic participation, including complex registration rules, unclear deadlines, and fragmented information across official election sites. These frictions contribute to consistently low voter turnout among younger demographics.
The Goal
Design an accessible, engaging single-page web experience that demystifies the registration process, organizes key voting resources into scannable modules, and provides a prominent call-to-action to register.
The Challenge
The primary challenge in this project was to create a visually appealing homepage that engages young voters, provide essential information on local and national political races, and offer user-friendly guidance in the voting process. Many young voters lack awareness of candidates and issues, discouraging participation. Addressing the challenge also involved designing a user-friendly interface with clear instructions to ease the voting process for this demographic.
VOTE
Research
The research showcases images of various voting websites, highlighting common themes and user-friendly elements that informed the design process and improved decision-making for voters.

Ideation
During the design phase, two distinct design recommendations were developed, and a user poll was conducted to determine which one received a more favorable aesthetic response.

Iterative Design
This process is detailed by highlighting the concrete steps taken to refine and enhance the voting website's user interface based on user feedback and testing.

Prototype
It offers a visually appealing and user-friendly interface, featuring intuitive navigation, comprehensive information on voting procedures, and a dynamic, engaging layout, aimed at empowering young voters and fostering increased civic engagement.

The Result
The case study culminated in a highly successful homepage that effectively addressed user needs and preferences. User feedback played a pivotal role in shaping the homepage's visual aesthetics, functionality, and user experience, ensuring alignment with the young voter demographic's preferences and enhancing overall resonance.
Key Takeaways
User Testing
Conducting early wireframe testing and visual preference polls ensured the design decisions directly reflected user feedback, establishing a clear visual hierarchy before moving into high-fidelity mockups.
Informative
Simplified complex voting requirements into scannable, bite-sized modules—allowing users to quickly digest registration rules, ID requirements, and polling details without cognitive overload.
Insightful
Optimized layouts across both desktop and mobile viewports to guarantee that primary call-to-action buttons remained instantly visible and easy to interact with on any screen size.
Conclusion
This project reinforced the critical role that user research and iterative testing play in shaping effective civic technology. By transforming complex election guidelines into clear visual hierarchies and accessible desktop and mobile interfaces, the resulting platform successfully lowers entry barriers for new voters—demonstrating how thoughtful UX design can directly drive civic engagement.
